Faithful elephants response

          While Faithful elephants is a relatively basic story, blaring plot holes divert your attention and eventually ruins the experience. The story begins as a zoo keeper explains a tombstone to the author. He talks about how during world war 2, the army forces the zoo to kill all of the dangerous animals like tigers, snakes, Elephants, etc. After various attempts to kill the first elephant, John, the zoo keepers eventually starve him. The rest of the story is about how the zoo keepers were emotionaly devastated and one eventually illegally feeds the elephants. These elephants eventually die. I found it near impossible to be saddened by this because of the plot holes that made the story feel unprofessional and made every character feel stupid and uncaring.

          Every plot hole makes the story less enjoyable. One of these plot holes is when they debate transferring the elephants "The zoo keepers wanted...to keep tonky and wanly alive...they thought of sending them to the zoo in Sendai,...Tokyo... What if bombs fell on Sendai?..." This excuse is barely thought out. For example, what if they brought the elephants to a country not a war like maybe Australia. Also, maybe they could go to a place in Japan very remote that will very likely not be bombed. Maybe they could release the elephants back into the wild. None of these points are every addressed which severs any emotional ties to any character as they don't feel like real people.

          Another giant plot hole is how these elephants are out in the open. The elephant trainers hate this as shown by "All the..keepers...stayed away from the elephants cage." There are many solutions to this problem. For example, they could simply get a big sheet and put it over the cage. Another one is how they could easily move the elephants to a secluded cage. Instead of trying to solve this, the zoo keepers just ignore it. Nobody ever try's to solve a problem.

          To conclude, Faithful Elephants should be an emotional tale. This can't happen because a lot of problems have many possible solutions that are never addressed. Because of this I didn't care about any character. These problem make the story very sub-par.
